WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) — A man was killed after a dump truck backed over him on Monday in Washington County, Virginia, according to Virginia State Police.
Police said the incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 30.
According to police, a Freightliner M2 dump truck was reversing on the right shoulder of the interstate when it ran over a pedestrian on the shoulder. Both the dump truck driver and the pedestrian were part of a work crew doing shoulder maintenance work.
The pedestrian, James Nunley, Jr., 43, of Marion, died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
