Nevada Sports Net's High School Sports Year in Review show debuts tonight on NSN at 6, 8 and 10 p.m. On the show, we handed out a number of end-of-the-year honors, including Girls Athlete of the Year, which went to Galena star Eleanor Raker.
Athlete: Eleanor Raker
School: Galena High
Sports: Cross country, track and field
Accomplishments: Raker is one of the most accomplished runners in state history. A two-time Nevada Gatorade Cross Country athlete of the year, Raker twice won state cross country championships, doing so as a freshman and sophomore. She finished runner-up as a junior and senior and was part of a Galena team title at state in 2021. She was equally as strong, if not better, in track and field. As a freshman, Raker won state in the 1,600 and 3,200; as a sophomore, she won state titles in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200; and as a senior this season, she won state in the 1,600 and 3,200 with third place in the 800. That gives her nine career state titles in cross country/track and field as well as nine more individual regional championships. Raker holds the large-class state record in the 3,200 and is fourth in that classification in the 1,600.
Future: Raker originally signed to compete in college with national powerhouse New Mexico but has since flipped to run for Air Force, which she announced in April.
