Kenya: Facts & Figures 2024

Since our humble beginnings in 1974, the Nairobi delegation has grown exponentially. Our operations have expanded to include missions in Djibouti and Tanzania, which have played a crucial role in strategically positioning the delegation in the region and broadening the scope of our work. We remain committed to conducting humanitarian activities for vulnerable individuals and communities affected by armed conflict and violence.

In Kenya, the ICRC established a productive and valued partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS). We have also collaborated with the national societies in Djibouti and Tanzania to further extend our reach in the region.

From the beginning, the Nairobi Regional Delegation has been at the forefront of promoting International Humanitarian Law (IHL) principles to enhance understanding and integration, as well as to pursue humanitarian diplomacy objectives in the region. To achieve these goals, we have fostered engagement in the region with governments, armed and security forces, academia, media, and interlocutors, including religious leaders.
